Asia: Strong rise of 15,28% in Chilean fruit imports

According to information provided by the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile AG (ASOEX), Chilean fruit shipments to the world, so far in the current 2020-2021 export season (01/09/2020 to 19/04 / 2021), reach 1.686.346 tons, with an increase of close to 1% according to the same period of the previous year.

Main destination for Chilean fruits

Asia displaces the United States, as the main destination for fresh fruits from Chile, so far in the development of this campaign. Chile has sent 613.691 tons of fruits to Asian markets until last Tuesday, a figure that reflects an increase of 15,28 in the same period of 2019-2020. An increase that would be driven, to a great extent, by the increase in cherry exports (the main market is China).

On the other hand, the United States of America is in second place, with the reception of 476.843 tons, and a decrease of slightly more than 10%.

The European markets have received 276.432 tons, Latin America 253.436 tons, the Middle East 35.456 tons, and Canada 30.488 tons of fresh Chilean fruits.

Top ten

The top 10 Chilean fruits shipped to the world are led by table grapes with 490.726 tons, followed by cherries with 352.783 tons.

In third position are apples with 238.087 tons, later plums with 118.758 tons, blueberries with 117.844 tons, pears with 76.116 tons, nectarines with 72.129 tons, avocados with 70.993 tons, mandarins with 63.062 tons. and finally peaches with 27.038 tons.

Regarding the destination, the main market for table grapes (52% of the total shipments to the world), blueberries (72,3% of the total) and mandarins (91% of the total) is the United States. Of the cherries (94,9% of the total sent to the world), plums (50,5% of the total) and nectarines (42,3%) is Asia, especially China.

In the case of apples (55,9% of the total), the main market was Latin America. While pears (54% of the total) and Avocados (74,5% of the total) have been sent, mainly, to Europe.
