The first half of 2019 exported 1,85 million tons of fresh fruit; 2018 had exported millions of tons in the same period of 1,94, which implies a drop in fresh fruit exports this first half. On the contrary, nuts increase the volume exported from 43,8 thousand tons exported the first half of 2018 to 66 thousand tons the first half of this year.
The export of fresh fruit per season, September 2018 to June 2019, was 2,36 million tons, for the same period of the season 2017 / 18 the export of fresh fruit was 2,55 million tons representing a decrease in volume exported fresh fruit.
Blueberries: Although during the first semester of 2019 the volume of exported blueberries decreases with respect to the same period of 2018, when doing the analysis by season (Sep-Aug), the volume of exported blueberries continues in a continuous increase, happening this time from 109,3 thousand tons exported in the 2017 / 18 season to 110,9 one thousand tons in the 2018 / 19 season.
Chile, without the total incorporation of the IVVs, obtained an average value of 5,4 dollars per kilogram Fob exported this season; At the same date of 2018 and without the total incorporation of the IVVs, the price of the blueberries exported in FOB value reached only the 5,24 dollars, less than those obtained this season, so it is expected that all the IVVs will be incorporated , the price could reach a figure similar to or higher than last season that, when the IVVs were incorporated, reached 5,76 dollars per kilogram Fob exported.
The main destination of the fresh blueberry is still the United States of America, where an average price of 5,03 dollars per kilogram Fob exported (without total IVV) was obtained, a market to which 55% of the volume of this exported fruit was sent this season. 2018 / 19.
The volume of frozen blueberries exported in the first half of 2019 was 23,6 thousand tons, less than the 27,4 thousand tons exported in the first half of 2018. The average value per kilo exported in both periods was similar and close to the 2,9 dollars, and the 33% of the volume was destined for the United States of America, where an average price close to the 3,3 dollars per kilo Fob exported for both was obtained periods.
The 72% of the volume of frozen blueberries sent to the United States (5.505 tons) is an organic product, whose average value reached the 3,53 dollars per kilo Fob exported the first half of 2019, less than the 3,73 dollars per kilo Fob exported the same period of 2018
The varietal replacement is expected to deliver better prices next season, along with the price increase that is occurring worldwide but that Chile does not yet reflect it pending the incorporation of the final IVV.
1IVV: Value Variation Report, Exports that are not made in the “firm” mode (normally fruit exports) can be adjusted up to 6 months after the date on which shipments were declared, which normally causes changes in exported values.
