51% of the fruits and vegetables imported by Spain in 2024 came from non-European countries.

Spanish imports of fresh fruits and vegetables in 2024 reached 4,3 million tons, 6% more than the previous year. Of these, 51% (2,2 million tons) came from non-EU countries and 49% (2,1 million tons) from the EU. In value, total purchases amounted to €5.001 billion, of which 66% came from third countries.

In 2024, in terms of volume, Spanish imports of fruits and vegetables from EU countries grew more than those from non-EU countries. Fruit and vegetable imports from other Member States grew by 12%, reaching 2,1 million tons, while imports from third countries grew by 2% compared to 2023, totaling 2,2 million tons, according to data from the Customs and Excise Department of the Spanish Tax Agency, processed by the Spanish Federation of Associations of Producers and Exporters of Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers, and Live Plants (FEPEX).

In terms of value, the opposite occurred. The value of fresh fruit and vegetable imports from third countries stood at €3.295 billion, representing a 12% increase and 66% of the total, while imports from EU countries grew less, by 9%, totaling €1.706 billion and representing 34% of the total.

France and Morocco are the largest and second largest suppliers of imports to the Spanish market, with 1,1 million tons and 455.086 tons, respectively, in 2024.

The total import value in 2024 amounted to €5.001 billion, representing a year-on-year growth of 11%.

The data processed by FEPEX exclusively includes data related to fresh fruits and vegetables, which are included in tariff chapters 07 (subheadings 0701 to 0709) and 08 (subheadings 0803-0810).
