The Trujillo meeting takes place in the heart of the global blueberry industry

The cultivation, production and export of blueberries has spread around the world quickly and very efficiently. But, despite the fact that the scenario is dynamic, the American zone is the main protagonist of the crop globally, due to experience, knowledge, innovation and the unmatched edaphoclimatic conditions that it offers to the crop. Within the American zone, the Latin American region is the true protagonist of the industry worldwide, not only for having reached the first places in exports or planted area, but because it is a region in full development, so it will continue to grow in a sustained manner and raising the quality levels of the fruit.

Peru, leader

Within this framework of world geography of the crop, Peru is clearly the main and leading player in almost all markets in the world, backed by a consistent production of 300 tons of the best fresh fruit and projected to 500 tons by 2025.

Further refining the identification of the true engine of the activity, or the heart of the blueberry industry, we must highlight that it is the La Libertad region that generates more than half of the Peruvian production, and if we associate it with its neighbor Lambayeque , we are in the presence of an area that represents 77% of the total production of blueberries exported by Peru.

Heart of the global industry

To exemplify this data, we must remember that Peru during the last season exported 286.209 tons of fresh blueberries, with an increase of 28% compared to the previous season. The main blueberry export area in Peru is the Department of La Libertad, with a share of 53% and a dispatched volume of 151 thousand tons, which means an increase of 27% compared to the previous season.

In second place is the region of the Department of Lambayeque, with a 24% participation in the total exported and a volume shipped of 67 thousand tons. This Department had an exponential growth of 47% compared to the previous season.

It should be noted that between the Departments of La Libertad and Lambayeque they make up 77% of the Peruvian supply, with 218 thousand tons exported, much more than any country in the industry, so they are clearly the heart of the blueberry industry, not only Peruvian, but worldwide.

International industry meeting

This is the area where the Trujillo meeting will take place, within the framework of the XXVII International Blueberry Seminar of the 12 & 13 of July in the halls of Hotel Costa del Sol Wyndham Trujillo Golf.

Peru has 18.614 hectares, of which more than 15 are in the area where the International Blueberry Seminar in TrujilloTherefore, the interest of the global blueberry industry is inclined to visit and explore this area within the framework of the meeting.

The region is the center of Peru's agro-export activity and owner of a landscape of thousands of coastal hectares, producing among the sand, fighting against water scarcity and precarious transport connectivity, but with a tremendous drive from Peruvian producers and professionals that they have won over adversity, to obtain a quality fruit recognized throughout the world.
