Pampa California
The Technical Tour took place in the fields that Family Farms Peru has in the town of Pisco, south of Lima, where the company produces various MBO varieties on 600 hectares located in the middle of the Pampa California dunes. This innovative and challenging project has successfully produced top-quality fruit in extreme soil and climate conditions.
On the day, Víctor Gómez , Johnny Paredes y Hector Ticlayauri, the three crop managers of Family Farms Peru presented the visitors with a presentation on the performance of the different varieties. They demonstrated a great deal of knowledge about the plants in their various aspects, explaining in detail the reasons for the differences in production results between varieties and also between plants with the same genetic characteristics but exposed to different management conditions.
Knowledge and expertise
The efficient structure of the field and its sections; the lengthy process of achieving effective and productive pruning; the practice of conducting numerous field trials to achieve the best nutritional results; and the various successful agronomic management practices they have implemented were all generously explained by each of the technical team representatives, who also provided extensive and informative answers to each of the questions posed by visitors.
In addition to the cultivation technicians mentioned above, who were also able to explain the different situations experienced in recent seasons, it is worth highlighting the participation of Victor Valencia, head of Health and Izamo Yagui y Junior Cárdenas, from R&D Testing and Projections, who very professionally complemented the technical field presentations with abundant data and information.
At the head of the great technical team at Family Farms, the production manager was always willing to generously share his experience. John Paul Bentin, together with the technical advisor, Jorge Esquivel, who also hosted the meeting.
New blueberry book?
It's said that the blueberry book is being rewritten in Peru. This was evident in the extensive fields of Family Farms in Pampa, California. Those attending the Technical Tour were pleased with the results, not only for the volume, uniformity, and health of the plants, but also for the quality of the fruit, which boasts great size, flavor, and consistent yield. These berries weigh close to 10 grams and yields are 95% exportable.
In Pampa California, attendees of the Technical Tour witnessed an example of the ability of Peruvian producers and entrepreneurs to produce quality, competitive fruit in an extreme environment, in an inert soil with 99% sand, high radiation, and a very complex water supply. It was undoubtedly a beneficial experience for all the visitors, and they will surely tell the world what they saw there.
El XXXIV International Blueberry Seminar The program featured a full blueberry and market program, which was extensively developed on March 12 and 13. In addition, topics related to cherries were presented in parallel, as a guest crop of interest for the diversification of Peruvian producers.
We look forward to seeing you at our next event, 35th International Seminar on Berries & Cherries, Chile to be held this coming April 10th.
