Exports from La Libertad reached US$ 521 million in the first two months of 2022

Blueberries were the product that had the best performance in shipments from that region in the first two months of this year.

 In the first two months of the year, exports from the La Libertad region reached US$521 million, registering an increase of 13% compared to the same period in 2021.

This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), who highlighted that blueberries were the product that had the best performance in the first two months of this year.

He added that the great demand for the berry abroad was able to offset the fall in the sale of other exportable products from the region such as gold (-2%), avocado (-26%), fishmeal (-4%) and the asparagus.

Exports in 2021

In 2021, exports from La Libertad reached a record US$3.900 billion, which represented an increase of 19% compared to 2020. This is due to the good performance of the sale of fruits, fishery products and minerals.

Precisely, one of the activities that added the most to this growth in 2021 was agro-export, which grew by 14% thanks to the sale of fresh products such as grapes (45%), avocado (37%), ginger (31%), onion (7%) and blueberry (4%).

In that same year, the employment generated by agro-industrial production and export increased by around 110.000 jobs, which represents more than 10% of the Economically Active Population (EAP) of the La Libertad region.

Likewise, during 2021, La Libertad was the first blueberry producer in the country with a 51.9% share of the national market; In addition, it leads the production of sugar (48.4%), gold (31.5%) and avocado (29.2%).

La Libertad has more than 20% share of total exports throughout the country, which is why the Chamber of Commerce of La Libertad ratified its commitment to contribute to the economic growth of the region, and even more so, considering the opportunity that It will be generated with the unlocking and completion of the Palo Redondo dam, which corresponds to the III Stage of the Chavimochic Special Project.
