Zero hunger: the ambitious agriculture agenda of the Italian Presidency

After what has been experienced worldwide since last year with the situation of the covid-19 pandemic, the eyes of the world have turned to providing more aid and reducing gaps.

In the framework of the meetings of the Italian Presidency of the G20, on April 19 and 20, the first Meeting of Deputies for Agriculture was held by videoconference, organized by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies.

Future goals

During the event, the reports prepared by FAO and the OECD on the achievement of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda and on the Food Coalition presented by Máximo Torero, FAO Chief Economist, and on resilience in agriculture presented by Guillaume Gruère, Senior Policy Analyst at the OECD.

Sustainability and zero hunger

The sustainability of agri-food systems and "zero hunger" were the priority during this forum that seeks to align in view of the next international meeting of the G20 scheduled for next September in Florence.

The president of the G20 Agricultural Experts, Graziella Romito, presented the priorities of the Italian Presidency on sustainability in agri-food systems and on achieving the goal of zero hunger. This is to illustrate concrete actions to promote and concretely contribute to the “zero hunger goal” and giving visibility to good practices in sustainable agriculture.

Support in ideas

The delegations of the G20 countries have expressed their support for the priorities promoted by the Italian Presidency that it intends to promote in order to specifically contribute to the goal of zero hunger and to give visibility to good practices in the field of sustainable agriculture.
