Price of cranberry falls significantly by oversupply and Argentina drastically reduces its shipments
Guild of Argentine producers decided to cut their exports by air by up to 70%. Situation is complicated especially in the US market.
The last weeks are nothing positive for the blueberry because the oversupply in the markets and the stagnant consumption of the fruit has caused its price to fall significantly. This situation is more palpable in the United States, where at the beginning of the campaign prices were high and now importers are overcooked with fruit.
Faced with this critical moment, the Argentinean Blueberry Committee (ABC) conducted an internal survey among its most representative partners. "All agreed that, given the considerable drop in prices, this week air exports will be reduced to 30%, and if the situation does not change, the measure will probably be replicated in the coming weeks"Said Carlos Stabile, representative of ABC.
"So much so that in Tucumán, for the 43 week, of a total of 14 predicted charter flights, only three will be finally realized. In figures, of the 2.700 tons estimated for export this week, only 700 will be exported. The rest of the fruit, the highest quality will be shipped in refrigerated containers to different parts of Europe and the United Kingdom, and the rest will be harvested directly for industry", Remarked Stabile.
