The Association of Agricultural Producers Guilds of Peru (AGAP) elected its new Board of Directors for the period 2025-2027, which is chaired by Gabriel Amaro Alzamora, accompanied by Rosario Bazán Cabellos and Alfonso Rizo-Patrón Ruiz de Somocurcio, in the first and second vice presidencies respectively.

Gabriel Amaro and the vice presidents were re-elected after a successful term between 2023 and 2025. Previously, Amaro served as executive director of the association since 2016, and before that he was general manager of the National Confederation of Private Business Institutions, among other important positions.

He holds a degree in industrial engineering from the National University of Engineering and an MBA from the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences and the IEDE of the European University of Madrid.

“It is an honour to be elected AGAP president for this period. I am grateful for the trust of the members of this strategic sector for the country. Over the last two years we have worked to recover the path of growth and development of the entire Peruvian agricultural sector, of small family farming as well as agriculture, agro-exportation and modern agro-industry. We have great challenges for this new period and we will continue to promote the competitiveness of the entire agricultural sector, to continue generating a highly positive and relevant economic and social impact for the country,” said Gabriel Amaro.

Amaro also highlighted the importance of the sector in generating formal employment in rural areas, and the impact it has on reducing poverty and generating social well-being through investments of all sizes in agriculture.

For his part, Alejandro Fuentes León, who was vice president of the union in the period 2018-2021, and president in the period 2021-2023, will join the Board of Directors as Past President.

AGAP represents producers, processors, traders, agro-exporters, associations and private companies in the agricultural sector of Peru, and promotes their development by increasing competitiveness, generating formal employment, accessing markets and improving the legal framework.

Mr. Gabriel Amaro will be present at the opening day in the discussion panel: "The blueberry industry, current status, strategies and trends" of the XXXIV International Blueberry Seminar Lima, Peru 2025 this 12 and 13 March.
