Innovation and productive strategies will be the focus of the next online celebration of the International Blueberry Month

During four days, there will be 11 exhibitors in charge of delving into topics relevant to the challenges that the popular berry industry will face.

After the pandemic, the international market has faced changes that have affected the economic well-being of many industries. Not unaware of these consequences, blueberry producers have faced a 2021-2022 season with logistical problems that not only highlighted the need to stay at the forefront of production techniques, but also accelerated research in search of new solutions to problems, which by At least until today, they persist without there being any certainty of their end.

It is this scenario that increases the value of instances like the next International Blueberry Month 2022, an online event where experts, researchers and producers can relate and socialize the best way to overcome future adversities. 

In four days, the speakers will present on topics such as techniques to improve the post-harvest life of blueberries, the current commercial and logistics situation, the best strategies to face it, as well as relevant innovation works for current transportation logistics problems. In this way, the organizer of the activity, Blueberries Consulting, maintains its commitment to contribute to the continuous improvement of the blue fruit industry. 

The pandemic increased world demand for blueberries exponentially, maintaining its upward trend. Therefore, the objective of this meeting is optimistic and seeks to provide tools to continue making blueberry cultivation a profitable and efficient activity for its producers, taking into account the current opportunity to offer a product that is valued and demanded by its consumers, given the positive effect of its consumption on human health.

On August 16, 18, 23 and 25 we will meet through the Agricultural Seminars platform at 7:00 a.m. USA, 9:00 a.m. Mexico and Peru, 10:00 a.m. Chile, 15:00 p.m. Morocco, 16:00 p.m. XNUMX hrs Spain and South Africa, to listen to the speakers, after which a round of questions will open to promote learning and discuss the different international experiences.

During the first day, Betina Ernst, director of Top Info Marketing SA will open the event with the talk "Perspectives and projections of the Latin American blueberry", and which will be followed by the topic "Situation of blueberry production in Peru. Challenges, opportunities and future perspectives”, carried out by Federico Beltrán, general manager of Terra Business SAC. Finally, Juan José Flores, director of Aneberries Mexico, will make an analysis of blueberries in Mexico. 

On Thursday, August 18, Claudio Yañez, quality and post-harvest specialist; Rafael Larrea, area sales technician – Maf Roda; and Jessica Rodriguez, adviser on postharvest, commercialization and marketing of fresh products, will focus on the quality of blueberries in the destination market with their respective talks on "Harvest and postharvest management in blueberries: important factors for the export of blueberries of quality”, “Quality systems with the new multi-format fillers” and “Strategies in post-harvest management of blueberries in the face of the greatest logistical challenges”.

The second week of the event will be kicked off by the president of the Association of Moroccan Producers of Red Fruits, Amine Benani, speaking on the "Current state and projections of the Moroccan blueberry industry" and will close the day Hans Liekens, Sekoya value chain & retail manager, with the presentation of the "Current state and projections of the blueberry industry in Europe".

The final day will feature the participation of Pedro Brás de Oliveira, a researcher at the National Institute of Agricultural and Veterinary Research, who will speak about the "Production of blueberries in substrates". Cristián Balbontín, in charge of the Berries Plant Breeding and Plant Breeding Program at INIA, will tell us about the results of his research in the talk "Improving the quality of blueberry fruits under water stress conditions through the use of hormonal inducers", and will finally conclude The event will be attended by Juan Hirzel, INIA researcher and international consultant, who will present the topic "Nitrogen, Potassium and Foliar Complements Nutrition in Blueberries grown in soil and substrate".
