Mexico: Cranberry production grows more than one 500% in El Fuerte

With enough success, the production of blueberries in the municipality of El Fuerte took root as an excellent alternative, because at 6 years of project initiation, the planting area has been strengthened in more than one 500 percent and already provide 7 thousand harvest jobs that positively impact the inhabitants of rural communities.

The important productive project started in the community of La Boca de Arroyo and from there it has been gradually extended to other localities of the municipality, where its inhabitants have embraced and have taken ownership of this project because they receive important economic benefits for all the generation of hand of work that is generated in the crop.

The beginnings 

The project was detonated from 2010 by the Agricultural Company of El Fuerte Fe and in just a little more than five years has already placed our state as one of the main producers of blueberries nationwide, which is already exported to The United States and Canada and other countries in the world that recognize the high quality of blueberries produced in this municipality.

El Fuerte Fe is a company with a vision of the future that seeks to continue exceeding its own production goals, in such a way that for the coming years it hopes to continue raising the surface established with this crop, which is already located in the 550 hectares, of the which 340 are already in production. This development has been accompanied by the strengthening of infrastructure, such as the precooling and refrigeration chambers, packaging areas, as well as equipment for the improvement of the activities that are permanently undertaken in the field.

Parallel to the advances that are made in the production of this crop, the company is currently analyzing other production alternatives that can also be undertaken successfully, such as other species of fruit trees that allow employees to collaborate for most of the year. They already benefit from cranberry harvesting. Advances in validations are already important and are expected to have results in this regard soon.

Project is positive

 The blueberry production project in the municipality of El Fuerte has been very important because it has come to improve the economy of this entire area and provide an important generation of labor that has allowed thousands of day laborers who previously went down to the valley in the job search, said Marte Vega Román.

The head of the 001 Rural Development District of Sagarpa said that where the project is analyzed has been positive because there is a greater economic flow in this area.

"We definitely see the project with good eyes because it came to be installed in a region in need of labor. "In fact, year after year, many people came here to work in the valley to harvest vegetables and right now these people are staying there and pay them very well.".

The cultivation has been very successful because very good productions and very good quality are obtained, to such a degree that the entrepreneurs are very happy and try to raise the surface.
