Special Fruit begins the season of organic blueberries

Special Fruit begins the season of its own organic blueberries in Portugal. In 2012, the company made a large investment in collaboration with a producer who grows, among other products, organic blueberries. The company, Mirtisul, is located in the Alentejo region, which has the ideal climate for growing cranberries.

Blueberries are a fruit with the perfect combination of great flavor and great health benefits. In addition, studies show that the organic version of the fruit contains a higher dose of fructose, an extra contribution to its flavor.

Special Fruit believes in the development of the organic sector and sees this product as a great complement to its assortment. "The organic product is not only healthier for the body, it is also better for the environment".

Today, the ecological supply of blueberries has varieties such as Sharp Blue, Misty, O'Neal, Georgia Gem and Star, and the company's goal is to expand the availability of this assortment and its type.

The season for Special Fruit goes from now until mid-June, with a total volume of 140 tons. The peak is between weeks 23 and 25. The company has different types of packaging available on demand. For these red fruits, the special BerryFresh label was designed that highlights the positive properties of organic blueberries and makes them more recognizable to the consumer. The BIOgarantie logo is also included in the berries label, which are certified by GlobalGAP.
