Peru covers part of its consumption of fruit and other sectors

Peruvian shipments to Saudi Arabia reach US$ 8.3 million between January and September 2022, showing an increase of 24.2%

The best positioned sector in the Asian country is agriculture, which accounts for 73% of total exports to that destination. In addition, during the first nine months of the year, shipments of Peruvian agricultural goods to Saudi Arabia were around US$ 5.3 million; among them, the export of fresh grapes (US$ 689 thousand) and fresh blueberries (US$ 307 thousand) stood out.

Saudi Arabia is a strategic partner for Peruvian trade. The Asian country supplies polymers for the national industry of plastic products; while Peru covers part of its consumption of fruit and other sectors.

“Between 2017 and 2021, our exports to Saudi Arabia totaled almost US$50 million. This year, at the end of the third quarter, they have totaled US$ 8,3 million, thus growing 24.2% compared to last year,” said Minister Roberto Sánchez.

In the fields of foreign trade, the best positioned sector in the Asian country is agriculture. It explains 73% of total exports to that destination. In addition, during the first nine months of the year, shipments of Peruvian agricultural goods to Saudi Arabia were around US$5,3 million; among them, the export of fresh grapes (US$ 689 thousand) and fresh blueberries (US$ 307 thousand) stood out.

Another important sector in the commercial exchange between Peru and Saudi Arabia is the iron and steel sector. In the period January-September 2022, shipments of zinc alloys reached US$ 2 million, a value 220,1% higher than that registered in the same period of 2021.

The chemical sector, for its part, exported, in this period, goods for US$ 781, a figure 387,9% higher than that registered in 2021. In the area, orthoboric acid was the most prominent chemical, adding US$ 651 thousand (+525.6%).

“The iron-metallurgical and chemical sectors have been the ones that have grown the most with respect to Peruvian exports to Saudi Arabia. From Mincetur, we are playing a separate game to strengthen the development of our foreign trade and continue to position our products in the world," added the minister.

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Roberto Sánchez, also stated that Peru's commercial policy of integration to the world has been achieving a positive impact for the national economy and the regions of the country. He said that, thanks to the joint work of the public and private sectors, Peru has been achieving significant export performance.
