Huelva International Seminar: An opportune meeting for the industry ...

The global reality of blueberry production is crossed by large variables, and these are so important that each can be classified as fundamental or relevant to the future of the industry. This reality is linked and intertwined globally, because although it is true that each of them affects differently to each country or region, the end result is that the entire industry is affected, mainly by being linked to windows climatic and successive production that altering affect the whole system.

A major factor is the development achieved by science and technology applied to research, which has boosted the industry, positioning it as one of the fastest growing in the world of fruit growing and the export industry in general. The private initiative and the one from the world of the university academy have been fed back into the scientific research work with great results, turning the cranberry into an increasingly productive crop, with higher quality and better taste and condition, without losing its healthy qualities , which has made it a food of global consumption, each day more present in the human diet.

The access to this knowledge, or its property, is a differentiating factor that is vital for any productive development.

On the other hand, the exogenous factor is the main threat to face and forces strategic decisions to be made every day more radical. Frosts, droughts, or the various natural disasters that agricultural crops must face have not been oblivious to the swings of the cranberry industry, however, climate change is a factor that has become a threat of very destructive reaches. important and all the factors indicate that it will be a permanent situation, or at least with more and more frequent repetitions.

These variables (development and climate change) are elements that all industry players must consider, not only to maintain or exceed the standards achieved, but to meet the increasingly demanding expectations of consumers. Because it is no longer enough to produce blueberries, it is necessary to produce fruit of good quality, which reaches the consumer in a good condition of firmness and freshness, with an adequate size and a good flavor.

Climate change can produce structural transformations in the cultivation of cranberry and should be prevented. This 2017 has been a year in which the world has witnessed the incalculable effects it can produce in human activity. The events related to this meteorological phenomenon have been repeated, which oblige us to take radical measures in the field of the projection of crops, the different management and sustainability of the industry.

The November 9, at the 9 International Seminar that will be held at the Barceló Punta Umbría Beach Resort Hotel, in Huelva, Spain, will gather the best exponents of the field of scientific research related to the cultivation of cranberry and will be an unrepeatable opportunity to talk about these topics and others related to the production, marketing and development of the industry.

The meeting is very timely, because the arandanera industry is at a just moment to consolidate what has been achieved and project what has to happen to face the great challenges. All this in a framework in which the international demand for the product continues to increase and international marketing destinations for fruit also increase.
