Víctor Moller, president of Hortifrut: "The demand for healthy food continues to grow"

"The demand for healthy foods continues to grow, becoming a global trend, and where the consumption of berries, thanks to their multiple properties and health benefits, does so at rates of over 10% in the most consolidated markets such as the United States and Europe, and at even higher rates in markets such as Asia and America, where consumption is developing strongly", points out Víctor Moller, president of Hortifrut.

For this reason, he adds, the company has made investments and strategic alliances that today constitute projects underway in Peru, Mexico, China and the United States, among others. "This will allow us to double the annual sales volume, hoping to reach 100.000 tons per year in the following two seasons," he points out.

The healthy presence of berries anywhere on the planet is today a reality. "35 years ago, Hortifrut began to develop the global berry industry from Chile, and today we are a world-class company and number 1 in the world in blueberries, producing, marketing and distributing berries to the world during the 52 weeks of the year", stands out with enthusiasm.

A "unique and successful" business model based on global alliances that goes from the field to the final customer, has allowed Hortifrut to integrate its operations throughout the entire value chain.

"The absence of intermediaries allows us to obtain cost advantages and exercise control over the different processes and achieve adequate traceability of our products, guaranteeing food safety from production to the final consumer," he points out.

Thanks to its own top-level productive assets both in the northern and southern hemispheres, which allow it to cover both harvest seasons, and thanks to its brands and commercial presence in 37 countries, Hortifrut is capable of supplying the entire category of fresh berries to the most important markets in the world. “We have more than 500 clients who represent hundreds of millions of consumers who prefer and trust their brands and products every day”, adds Víctor Moller.

OPTIMISM FACING THE FUTURE

He explains that Hortifrut's success and optimism for the future is based on its global strategy. In this regard, "innovation in the development of new and better exclusive varieties, the incorporation of state-of-the-art technology in its processes, the development of new and innovative products, and the commitment to the land, with more than 10.000 workers and their families in 10 countries, and with more than 800 producers located in China, South Africa, Morocco, Spain, the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Chile”.

"All of this allows us to deliver berries from both hemispheres, every day of the year, also generating a positive impact on workers, their families, the communities where they live and also on the environment," highlights Víctor Moller.
