Trujillo is the center of the region that concentrates more than 75% of the production and export of blueberries of the Peruvian industry, corresponding to La Libertad and its neighbors Lambayeque and Ancash.

With the rooms full in the two days, the International Blueberry Seminar was held on July 6 and 7 at the Costa del Sol Wyndham Trujillo Hotel.

The dozens of companies that set up their stands to offer their products and services were also permanently visited and consulted by the attendees, mutually expanding their commercial networks and closing numerous deals. ,, related to the different stages of cultivation, from the nursery and genetic offer, to modern technologies for fruit selection, irrigation, nutritional applications, fertilization, substrates, covers, pots or macro-tunnels, among many other products and services present in the meeting.

a specialist audience

The massiveness and quality of the attendees was the factor most highlighted by all, because the vast majority of the participants in the meeting were producers, technicians and professionals from the large agricultural companies that produce and export blueberry cultivation in the area of La Libertad and neighboring regions. That is to say, it was a public directly linked to the crop and its management and needs.

industry epicenter

It should be noted that this is the first time that the International Blueberry Seminar has come to Trujillo, and due to the resounding success achieved, it is very likely that the venue will be permanently included in the agenda of the World Blueberry Tour, which annually visits the main countries and regions of the planet where blueberries are produced professionally.

It must be remembered that the city of Trujillo is the center of the region that concentrates more than 75% of the production and export of blueberries of the Peruvian industry, corresponding to La Libertad and its neighbors Lambayeque and Ancash.

opening day

The first day was dedicated mainly to the different aspects of the post-harvest of the crop, both in its previous handling – corresponding to harvest and pre-harvest – and to the efficient use of the various existing technologies to help the fruit on its journey to distant markets.

In this same perspective, the segregation of production and the problems of arrival and transport linked to the quality of the fruit at its final destination were addressed.

Pathogenic and disease elements were also addressed, as well as aspects related to plant nutrition, both in its conventional and organic or natural way.

The meeting began with an analysis of the present and future of the blueberry business in Peru, designing a framework in which the constant growth of the Peruvian industry is fully sustainable, extending the supply calendar in international markets and building a virtuous triangle between a greater annual presence in the market, more supply volume and a result of increased consumption.

Closing day

The second day was mainly dedicated to cultivation in its organic management and all that this implies in terms of market regulation, different certifications in the main destinations, agronomic and nutritional management to obtain quality fruit, among other topics.

The constant rounds of questions that closed all the blocks of the meeting were the moments of greatest participation, due to the fact that it was possible to delve into each of the topics treated by the specialists and raise other concerns not addressed in the talks.

In summary, the meeting in Trujillo was a complete success and more than deserves that the city be permanently included in the tour of the Blueberry World Tour in its future versions.
